Christian Dior. Chanel. Elie Saab. Zuhair Murad. Balenciaga.
I’m familiar with the names. I’ve seen celebrities walk down the red carpet wearing these labels. I know Paris is the mecca of fashion. People spend lacs on it even though it’s not wearable or practical. They say it’s art, an attitude or the expression of feelings. But I didn’t really understand haute couture; until today.
I saw the pictures from Viktor & Rolf SS19 collection showcased at Paris Haute Couture Week and their designs were relatable AF. (For the uninitiated, Viktor & Rolf is a luxury fashion house started in 1993 by artists Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren). Trust me when I tell you their meme-couture is worth a dekko.

This could totally be worn at a desi family function. You know, for relatives who don’t get subtle hints.

Netizens are praising the designers for creating clothes that speak to millennials or the meme-generation. However, some purists think that Paris fashion should remain scared and this might just be a ploy to get more publicity.
What do you guys think of this collection? Is it unusual and unexpected? Or did you find it unattractive and unappealing?
