When you open the matrimonial section of a newspaper, you expect to find the usual set of requirements – fair, loyal, good family background, maybe a good job. But every once in a while, you come across a gem so bizarre that it makes you wonder if it was written seriously or just for comic relief.
Case in point: this matrimonial ad.

The ad is for a 5’8” BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) graduate, currently “not working”, who seeks a bride that ticks nearly every possible box on the planet. According to him, the ideal woman should be very fair, beautiful, very loyal, very trustworthy, loving, caring, brave, powerful, and rich. Oh, and did we mention? She also has to be “extremely patriotic” with a “keen desire to increase India’s military and sports capabilities.”
But the list doesn’t end there. She must also be an “expert in child raising,” an “excellent cook,” and of course, employed – preferably a working woman from Bihar or Jharkhand. Meanwhile, the groom himself is, as the ad clearly states, “presently not working”.

The matrimonial ad was shared on Reddit’s r/delhi subreddit. Have a look:
Any working girl from Delhi wants to marry this currently unemployed dentist?

On Reddit, many couldn’t believe the sheer audacity of expecting a woman to be fair, rich, powerful, patriotic, a childcare expert, a culinary master, and gainfully employed, while the man is still unemployed. Some even joked that the ad managed to squeeze in more red flags in a tiny column than most people display in a lifetime.
Here’s what some of them had to say:

This matrimonial ad reads less like a partner requirement and more like a superhero job description.
