Posing beside sculptures and statues may seem harmless. However, a youth from Tamil Nadu recently caught himself in trouble for doing the same.
The 22-year-old man was arrested for posting controversial pictures on social media where he could be seen allegedly posing indecently beside female sculptures at the famous Brihadeeshwara Temple in Tanjore.

According to sources, one of the residents on his ‘friend list’ was shocked after seeing the pictures on Facebook and complained to the police who arrested him from Madurai. In the pictures, the man can be seen kissing, hugging, and inappropriately touching the female idols.
The Brihadeeshwara Temple is one of the largest temples in South India and is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the “Great Living Chola Temples”.

The pictures have gone viral on social media and people are condemning the youth for his allegedly shameless act and disrespecting statues of worship.
Trichy Police has arrested Muji Rahman & lodged him in Trichy Central Prison. Looks like he was hiding away from Madurai at his sister’s place in Trichy. Absolutely shameless attack on Gods of other religion. pic.twitter.com/pvE2Yci4sk

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the man has been booked under IPC section 295 for injuring or defiling place of worship with intent to insult the religion of any class and 295 A- deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.
The pictures don’t just disrespect religious sentiment but more importantly, are a concern for how the female body is treated. Its when people start fondling even with idols of worship that you know there is a major problem with how the male gaze operates.
