Happy Women’s Day! Today we will see the entire world joining hands to praise the different shades of womanhood. Statuses will be uploaded, pictures will be posted, and a lot of discussions will be held on social media.
But do you know what happens for the rest of the year? The same old, same old.
Veteran actress Swastika Mukherjee, who has several critically acclaimed and commercially successful movies to her name, has recently been a victim of online body-shaming in one of the grossest ways.
It started when she posted a picture on Instagram, modelling an outfit for a designer.
To the normal person’s eyes, this is a perfectly decent picture.
But to the gaze of online trolls, the actress has ‘saggy breasts’, and it’s a crime for that to happen.
But soon enough, Swastika lashed back at the trolls. She said that it is very normal for a mother who has breastfed her child to have “saggy boobs”.
“Why are men always commenting on women’s saggy boobs?”, she asked.
i had posted this picture on Instagram and all I heard was ‘WHY DO YOU HAVE SAGGY BOOBS?!’ Why are men always commenting on women’s saggy boobs ?? Breast feed a child for years and then talk fuckers. I am proud of my saggy boobs. I am a proud mother. I didn’t use pumps. pic.twitter.com/x90VMEa9DD

I breastfed my child and I will do the same again if life gives me a chance. When I work as a heroine I wear UNDERWIRED BRAS that hold my breasts upright just the way the world wants to see them, when I am not working I give a FUCK. Do hell with the world.

She took to her Twitter handle to speak about how this is the “actual scene” where women, specifically actresses have to appear “picture perfect”.
It’s #InternationalWomensDay and all the circus around it will start and this is what the actual scene is. We are supposed to be picture perfect. Have the best boobs/ass/waist/lips. If you don’t have one then go for surgery and get them done. Otherwise get trolled. What a farce.

Her statements urged several others to come forward and speak about the issue.

Didi, it's very simple. Some people just don't process what they say. They have no control over their mind. All they can do is sit cowardly behind their mobile screens and judge. I am happy that you are standing up against such regressive mindset.

What you see in magazines and movies is all a farce, and a lot of editing. Each woman’s breasts are different depending upon age, weight, height, hormones, and a lot of other biological factors. There’s nothing wrong with “saggy breasts”, or even absolutely “no breasts”.
This Women’s Day just let women be. Let them be comfortable with their own true, unfiltered, unedited selves. That’s all we ask.
