The tirade of ‘forced religiousness’ is not new in India, however, all hell broke loose when Sonu Nigam, voiced his angst against the collateral noise pollution that we are subjected to in the name of religion. Before you start hurling at me, let me remind you that azaan or chiming bells of a church or a temple has nothing to do with it. But if Sonu wasn’t spared, there is no chance I will be.
However, that isn’t even the cry anymore. After inviting a lot of hate from trolls, subtle digs from fellow-members of the film fraternity (cue: Pooja Bhatt and Wajid Khan), seems like Sonu’s problems are far from an end! Even after clearing his stand, a fatwa has been issued against the singer!
Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi, vice president, West Bengal Minority United Council, has gone ahead and condemned Sonu for his stance against azaan. He said,
“If anyone can shave his hair, put a garland of old torn shoes around his neck and tour him around the country I personally announce an award of Rs 10 lakh for that person.
People like Nigam should be driven out of the country.”
Branding Sonu as an anti-national, he added that the council will organise a mass rally at Rani Rashmoni Avenue in central Kolkata to send a message across to people like Nigam and the RSS.
The maulvi also went out on a limb saying that Sonu said all that he said just for publicity.
But, Sonu is not one to sit and sulk. Taking notice, he immediately took to Twitter and threw what seems like an open challenge to the maulvi.

In fact, he is also invited the press for the show of shade!

Boy, now that’s some challenge! Tune in at 2 to know more!
