In the wake of the brutal Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, where 26 civilians, including 25 Indian tourists and one Nepali national, were killed by terrorists affiliated with the LeT-backed The Resistance Front, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025. This precision military operation initially targeted nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, aiming to dismantle terror networks without escalating the conflict.
However, while India was attacking terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan, Pakistan was attacking Indian civilians and military. All of India’s acts have been in retaliation and in defence.

While India’s military response was swift and calculated, the information warfare, or ‘infowar’, front presented challenges. Pakistan engaged in a concerted propaganda campaign, utilizing social media, international news outlets, and diplomatic channels to shape global narratives, portraying India as the aggressor and downplaying its own role in supporting cross-border terrorism.
This strategic dissemination of misinformation aims to garner international sympathy and obscure the facts surrounding the Pahalgam attack.
In conflicts such as this, managing the narrative is as crucial as military strategy. In order to maintain international support, nations engaged in the conflict must be transparent and counter misinformation.

Recognizing this, Congress MP Dr. Shashi Tharoor stepped up and engaged with prominent foreign media outlets to articulate India’s position and set the record straight. He is challenging false narratives and presenting the world with a balanced perspective regarding India’s actions and intentions.
“Let’s be clear. India wants nothing Pakistan has. India is happy to leave PAK alone. But Pakistan is a bigoted power that wants to take over parts of India only because the people living there share the same religion as Pakistanis. People from Pakistan can’t just come across the border kill civilians and walk back without paying a price for it. India is not escalating, it is merely reacting. Each attempt to talk to Pakistan has ended with a Pakistan terror attack. No one in India is interested in talking to Pakistan while they are pointing a gun at our heads,” he said.

Several people online have lauded Shashi Tharoor for his active involvement in representing India’s perspective on global platforms. It has also thrown light on how important it is for articulate and credible voices to engage in the infowar, ensuring that India’s narrative is accurately conveyed and understood internationally.

Mad respect for @ShashiTharoor who has become the unofficial spokesperson to puncture false and biased narratives in the western media. Given he is from an opposition party, makes it even more impactful. No one else could have done it better – take a bow, Sir!

It’s unfortunate that India hasn’t been able to use Shashi Tharoor to its full potential to represent India internationally just because he isn’t in Govt. pic.twitter.com/PKIYsCD6qQ

Why’s India So Quiet in the Infowar?
Only @ShashiTharoor actively pushing back against Pak’s propaganda. Kudos to him—but where’s the broader effort? pic.twitter.com/zwJJ6uLcu8

Kudos to @ShashiTharoor for doing an excellent job countering the narrative at the international level. While Pakistan tries to play the victim, Tharoor is exposing their hypocrisy with clarity and conviction. pic.twitter.com/fazcyB7mMg

What a powerful interview by Shashi Tharoor…..beautifully articulated, fact-based, and a brilliant representation of India. Truly impressive!

India needs to get ready to counter global propaganda. Get 10 Shashi Tharoor like personalities and launch them in foreign media.
Indian Foreign Service officers are too diplomatic, former armymen too aggressive—and both won’t serve the cause.

@ShashiTharoor and @VDoraiswami should be the only two voices that represent india on a global forum:
Clear, factual, calm, concise and brutal in their takedowns

At a time when wars aren’t just fought on borders but also on timelines and headlines, India needs more voices like Shashi Tharoor – calm, clear, and brutally factual.
