Martin Scorsese is one of the greatest, most celebrated directors of Hollywood. The time he spent in Italy during his childhood before migrating to America with his family, has made an impact on his story telling and his directorial preferences.
Scorsese movies are famous for their vivid but engaging gang war scenes and gore, but there is one specific signature Scorsese has in his films, that is their endings.
He ends his movies in the most peculiar way, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats and keeping them hooked even after the film has ended. The most famous example would be that of the Taxi Driver, the ending of which has kept fans baffled even now, three decades later.
So here we are, listing the best and the most engaging end scenes of Martin Scorsese movies that’ll rattle you to your bones.
1. Taxi Driver

This movie is all about a lonely man’s, Travis Bickle played by Robert De Niro, slow descent into insanity. This movie keeps you on the edge of your seats throughout, but the most interesting part of this movie is it’s ending. It ends a bit abruptly. Was it all in Travis’ head? People are still scrtaching their heads over it.
2. Shutter Island

If you have watched this movie, you know there’s nothing that you can pinpoint and say, ‘this is for sure’! What makes the ending stand out is that it still doesn’t give up on the plot and keeps the mystery of the story to the very last second. It leaves you without an answer.
3. After Hours

It’s one of Scorsese’s low budget films but doesn’t fail to amuse. It’s a black comedy depicting one unfortunate man and his luck getting worse by the hour of the night. The direction of the ending scene makes it extremely exhilarating to watch and keeps you in awe of the superb storytelling caliber of Scorsese.
4. Cape Fear
This movie is all about violence and blood spilling by a psychopath who harasses a family for no apparent rhyme or reason. But the interesting part of the scene, if you notice is the unflinching stare the villian gives the father. The scene where the daughter gives out a mental monolog while staring staring the camera can literally give you goosebumps.
5. The Departed

The plot is mighty confusing. There is no black or white in the story. This movie is a the perfect example for Scorsese’s penchant for blood and thrillingly acute violence.
6. The Wolf Of Wall Street

It’s a biopic on Jordan Belfort, a Wall street man scandalized by a life of money, drugs & women. Watching this movie is a complete roller coaster ride, and the ending becomes super iconic with the dialogue, “Sell me this pen.”
7. Goodfellas

This movie based on the real-life story of Henry Hill( An American gangster) has a lot of blood and violence. It’s like the American Gangs Of Wasseypur or vice versa. It has been touted as the “best mob movie ever”. It’s a movie you just cannot miss.
8. The Aviator

This was one of Scorcese’s most successful films ever. It won 6 Golden Globe awards and is about a man’s ambitions paired with OCD and paranoia. Especially in the end, the scene ends with an abrupt cut with Leonardo smiling and then repeating his rant, saying “The way of the future.” I found it to be one of the most impactful  scenes ever.
9. Casino

This is a quintessential Scorsese mob movie with endless killings and avid whackings to death. This story is of the making and remaking of Las Vegas and the mob circuit’s role in it. It mesmerizes you and enthralls you with the unreal reality of scenes and a gripping of the plot.
10. Hugo

This movie is probably the only one in which Scorsese steered clear of violence and cursing. This is one of the most positive movies made by the Master Director ever. The film is beautiful in its structure, laced with hope and the end scene concentrating on the object of the story makes it absolutely sublime.
