Savitri Thakur is the Minister of State in the Ministry of Women and Child Development. She was elected from the Dhar constituency of Madhya Pradesh in the recently held Lok Sabha elections. Her educational qualification includes a Higher Secondary degree only and she is an agriculturist by profession.
On June 18, she attended an event organised under the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ initiative named ‘School Chale Hum’ in Dhar district, which is 60 km away from Indore. Savitri Thakur, on being asked to write the flagship slogan ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ on the whiteboard with a black marker, revealed her educational competency.

According to TOI, she was unable to write ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ in Hindi. Stumbling in the process, she only managed to write ‘Bedhi Padao Bachchav’. The entire incident was caught on camera.

Isn’t it strange that a minister, who claims to be class 12 pass, was unable to write four simple words in Hindi?
Several people online expressed their disappointment with the Minister and suggested that our ministers should have a certain degree of educational qualification to be eligible to stand for elections. Have a look:
This is really embarrassing man. Why are most ministers so overhyped when they are not even 1% deserving of everything they get. The power trip, the amenities, security, and other benefits surely elevate their status in their own eyes to later look down on civilians https://t.co/6A9YsU8b4H

While so many talented and highly educated women are struggling to find work, an unqualified woman has been appointed as the Union junior minister for women and child development. It aptly shows the irony and unfairness in our country. https://t.co/xj7PMPdl1S

tbh I would not blame her. Our country has always focused more on formal literacy than quality education. Even our new generation of students is not able to read 2nd grade text fluently or solve basic math problems. https://t.co/q5ZRaPLUHg https://t.co/MuDu8HKvI3 pic.twitter.com/iYKARjj6kJ

Not keeping Educational Qualification for MPs/MLAs is the biggest blunder in our constitution https://t.co/5gI11EJVvO

Unpopular opinion: India should require a certain level of education for candidates. With the world changing, caste-based politics and selecting ministers based on caste should end. Merit, not caste, should determine eligibility for ministerial positions. https://t.co/vuCWu0ZRXj
