In India, the fame and fortune of athletes are as unequal as they can get. While cricketers enjoy the limelight, hefty sponsorships, and lifelong financial stability, athletes from other sports often struggle to make ends meet. Despite dedicating their lives to bringing glory to the nation, many find themselves forgotten, abandoned by the very system they once made proud.
A recent incident in Mumbai is proof of this harsh reality. Entrepreneur Aaryan Singh Kushwah was on a cab ride when he learned something extraordinary about his Ola driver, Parag Patil. This wasn’t just any cab driver – Patil is a former Olympian and an international athlete who has represented India on the global stage.
Patil’s achievements as an athlete are jaw-dropping. He has won 2 gold medals, 11 silvers, and 3 bronzes, competing in events like the triple jump and long jump.
Every time he represented India, he returned with a medal. Yet, today, he drives a cab to support his family because there are no sponsors or support systems to help him sustain an athletic career.
“This post is a call to action for anyone that can help sponsor Parag represent and win for India internationally,” wrote Aaryan.

This incident reminds us that India needs to do better for its athletes. More sponsorship opportunities, government schemes, and community support can help. It’s not just about medals – it’s about valuing the people who dedicate their lives to our country’s pride.
