Presence of mind is a crucial trait that can often make the difference between life and death. In a recent incident in Kinnigoli near Mangaluru, a schoolgirl displayed incredible bravery and presence of mind, rescuing her mother and two others from an overturned autorickshaw after a terrifying accident.
According to TNIE, on a Friday evening, a schoolgirl named Vaibhavi was waiting on the roadside for her mother, Chethana, who was on her way to meet her daughter after a busy day. As Chethana attempted to cross the road, a speeding autorickshaw came hurtling towards her. The driver, in an effort to avoid a direct collision, lost control of the vehicle and ended up hitting both Chethana and another motorist before overturning on the road.
Witnessing the frightening scene unfold right before her eyes, Vaibhavi did not panic. Instead, she rushed to her mother’s aid. She managed to lift the autorickshaw to free her mother, the driver, and a passenger trapped underneath. A bystander, who saw Vaibhavi’s brave efforts, quickly joined her to help. Their swift action prevented what could have been a far more tragic outcome.
The entire incident was caught on a CCTV camera from a nearby shop, and the footage soon went viral on the internet. Have a look:
Fortunately, Chethana, the autorickshaw driver, and the passenger sustained only minor injuries in the accident. Chethana works as a bank deposit collection agent. Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic), BP Dinesh Kumar, commended Vaibhavi’s presence of mind and courage.
In a world where accidents are all too common, Vaibhavi’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact one person’s quick thinking and bravery can have.
