A 40-year-old Indian doctor, Oumair Aejaz, is being held on a $2 million bond in the US after being charged with multiple sex crimes. Aejaz, who specializes in internal medicine, is accused of secretly recording thousands of nude images and videos of children and women over the past six years. Police found over 13,000 videos on a single hard drive and seized 15 external devices during their investigation, reported India Today.

Aejaz moved to the US in 2011 and worked at various hospitals, including Henry Ford Macomb Hospital and Ascension Genesys Hospital in Michigan. He was arrested on August 8 after allegedly placing hidden cameras in bathrooms, changing areas, hospital rooms, and his own home. The recordings included footage of children as young as two years old and unconscious or sleeping women. His wife alerted authorities, leading to his arrest.
On August 13, Aejaz was charged with several crimes, including child sexually abusive activity and using a computer to commit crimes. Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard stated that the scope of Aejaz’s offences is vast and will take months to fully investigate.
Several people online expressed disgust upon learning about this news. Here’s what some of them had to say:
A doctor/health care worker committing a heinous crime by abusing his position of trust should be punished much more severely than a random criminal. https://t.co/RNGTsceRM4

Thank God his wife reported the criminal doctor! Family members rarely do and such persons should be duly recognized for aiding law enforcement in arresting criminals

The guy jumps through hoops to become a doctor. And then manages to clear exams and visa hurdles to land in the US and begins to practice. Then does this!
WTF is wrong. Seriously?!

This case, which has come at a time when the country is currently trying to process the gruesome rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, raises serious questions about why authorities and the health ministry are not taking stronger action to ensure the safety of patients and medical professionals. Crimes like these inside hospitals are alarmingly common, and more needs to be done to protect vulnerable individuals.
