Geet & Aditya Separate, Ved & Tara Shouldn’t Have Gotten Together: Imtiaz Ali Starts Debate

If we were to talk about some of the best easy-breezy love stories to have come out of Bollywood, ‘Jab We Met’ would certainly make the cut. The same is the case with ‘Tamasha’, which easily qualifies as one of the most popular coming-of-age Hindi films. Imtiaz Ali has managed to deliver one cult classic after another and has also left it to his audience to come up with their own theories of what happens next.

One would want fictional characters from his films like Geet and Aditya and Ved and Tara to live happily ever after, despite their differences. After all, many of us still believe in the concept of ‘happily ever after’, don’t we? But Imtiaz Ali thinks differently. In his opinion, Geet and Aditya would definitely separate within a few years of marriage.

At a recent Expresso event hosted by The Indian Express, when Imtiaz was asked about what the future looked like for Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Geet and Shahid Kapoor’s Aditya, he quipped that they would likely be “at a divorce lawyer’s office.”

But when it comes to Tamasha, Imtiaz gives a poignant twist. In the movie, Ranbir Kapoor’s Ved and Deepika Padukone’s Tara ultimately unite, but Imtiaz confessed he would have preferred if they hadn’t ended up together. He envisioned a scenario where Ved continued to idolize Tara as his muse from afar, while she secretly attended his shows.

“You know the ideal ending of Tamasha would have been if they hadn’t gotten together but he would have still idolized her as his muse. I wish that was the ending actually but that thought came a little late so in that scenario they would be separate and she would always be watching his shows but not telling him that she had come for it,” he said.

This started a massive debate on social media and several people weighed in on the subject. Here’s how they responded to Imtiaz Ali’s musings:
