College students are used to unexpected surprises in their hostel mess. Sometimes the food is great, other times it’s just survival. But at IIT Jodhpur, even a small change in the dining hall menu comes with an official, perfectly drafted email.
Recently, a student named Deeksha shared one such email on X that had everyone smiling. The subject line read “Unavailability of Aloo Shimla”, and the email politely informed students that instead of Aloo Shimla, Aloo Matar would be served for dinner, and the original dish would be shifted to the next day’s lunch. All signed off with a proper “Thanks and Regards, Dining Committee.”

The post instantly went viral because of how seriously and formally the dining committee communicates even the smallest changes. Many found it adorable, some wished their own messes were this transparent, while others joked that their meals are always a mystery until they see the food on their plate.
