There is no doubt regarding the fact that one of the major challenges that India is facing right now is the incessant decrease in employment opportunities. Even top institutes in the country like IIT and IIM are finding it difficult to give placement opportunities to some of its top talents. According to a report by Economic Times, the number of IIT students who have landed job offers in 2024 has decreased by 15-30% as compared to last year.
The case is no different at IIM Lucknow, one of the top institutes in the country, which is now reaching out to the alumni to arrange for job opportunities for its students. In a WhatsApp message that has gone viral, we see how IIM Lucknow claimed that 72 talented students were seeking employment opportunities. They asked ex-students from the 2011 batch to network and use their connections to find jobs for those 72 students.

“If you are aware of any job opportunities or have connections within your professional network that align with the skillsets of our 2024 batchmates, please consider referring them or informing us about potential openings,” read the message.

It is “crucial to maintain the legacy of IIM Lucknow’s 100% placement record”.

For those who don’t know, IIM Lucknow is one of the old IIMs and often considered to be one of the top 5 colleges in the country.
They have alums over decades who are in extremely powerful positions.
They can and will help.

If this is the condition of IIM Lucknow, imagine the condition of lakhs of other MBA graduates in the country.
Most of these 72 folks WILL get placed but what about the others.
There are tens of thousands of other MBA students. I do not think they will get this lucky.
It is going to get really tough in the near future.

Several people highlighted how the overall employment opportunities in the country has gone down significantly in the past year or so. Here’s how they reacted to this news:
Every B-School is facing the same situation, the people from IIMC and IIMB are also worried about it.

Almost same situation in all top tier engineering and mba colleges
Wonder what is happening

This year will be hard, no doubt. But this 100% placement record obsession has to stop. Doesn’t help anyone, least of all the folks who get literally shoved into these companies by ‘placecom’ who know no better.
Didn’t help anyone in 2008-09. Won’t do now.

If this is the situation in IIMs imagine what will happen to Sterling Institute of Management in Nerul, Navi Mumbai

The market is tough right now.
Hope these people take it as an opportunity though, I feel you become the best version of yourself only when you are down and out.

Not a MBA but the job market is completely down since September. Things are opening up a bit but not much.
