Chess Prodigy Gukesh Awarded ₹90 Lakh Mercedes-Benz by School After Olympiad Win

In a heartwarming moment for the country, India’s chess prodigy, Gukesh Dommaraju, made the nation proud by winning two gold medals at the Chess Olympiad. At just 18, Gukesh, who had already earned the title of Grandmaster, showcased his brilliance by leading India to their first-ever gold at the tournament. His exceptional performance, where he won 9 out of 10 games with an impressive 3056 performance rating, has stunned chess fans worldwide.

Following his incredible achievement, Gukesh Dommaraju was felicitated at a grand ceremony hosted by his school, Velammal Vidyalaya in Tamil Nadu, which has produced 15 of India’s 83 Grandmasters.

The event turned even more special when his school gifted him a brand-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class luxury sedan, worth Rs 90 lakh.

Gukesh arrived at the event in style, seen stepping out of a Porsche Panamera 4S before receiving his well-deserved accolades on stage. He then donated Rs 10 lakh to the Tamil Nadu flood victims.

Gukesh has not been a regular student at his school since 4th grade due to his intense chess commitments. However, Velammal Vidyalaya, which has nurtured many chess talents under the guidance of the legendary Viswanathan Anand, continues to support its chess prodigies.
