Across India, countless women are harassed every single day – on the streets, in public transport, in markets, and even in their own neighbourhoods. From catcalling to stalking, men often behave with shocking impunity, knowing that society will either stay silent or blame the victim. For the longest time, women were taught to quietly bear this daily torment. But thankfully, things are slowly changing. More and more women are now speaking up and sometimes, fighting back.
One such moment of fearless resistance came from a schoolgirl in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, who was fed up with being harassed repeatedly by the same man. Instead of ignoring it, she decided to publicly call him out and teach him a lesson he wouldn’t forget.
In a video that has now gone viral, the teenage girl is seen slapping the accused, hitting him with her slippers, and even picking up a brick to threaten him, all in broad daylight, right in the middle of the road.
She also grabbed the man by his collar and gave him a strong verbal lashing in front of a crowd. The incident took place on Pony Road in the Gangaghat Kotwali police area last Saturday but came to public attention after the video surfaced online.
The accused has been identified as 20-year-old Akash, an e-rickshaw driver who also delivers bottled drinking water. According to TOI, he had been following the girl and making indecent remarks for several days. On the day of the incident, he not only blocked her path but also insisted she accompany him somewhere. That’s when the girl lost her patience and retaliated.
Even though she didn’t lodge a formal complaint, the police took the accused into custody and booked him for breach of peace.

In a country where victim-blaming is still common, this young girl’s courage is a breath of fresh air. She didn’t just stand up for herself. She made a statement on behalf of every girl who has ever been made to feel unsafe on her own street. More power to her.
