Dilip Kumar’s career as an actor spanned for nearly 6 decades. From his first film ‘Jwar Bhata’ in 1944 to his last film ‘Qila’ in 1998, the actor had delivered legendary performances one after the other. This is probably why his death feels like the end of an era, the end of what can be called the golden age of Hindi cinema.
Dilip Kumar passed away this morning after battling a prolonged illness, reports NDTV. He was 98 and had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Hinduja Hospital in Bandra.
“He passed away due to prolonged illness at 7.30 am,” said Dr Jalil Parkar, who had been treating the actor.
With a heavy heart and profound grief, I announce the passing away of our beloved Dilip Saab, few minutes ago.
We are from God and to Him we return. – Faisal Farooqui

The thespian. Dilip Kumar, 1922-2021. The first film I ever saw was with my mother at Hind theatre, Kolkata. Insaniyat with Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand and Bina Rai. All three, now gone. The warmest of people. The richest of memories. pic.twitter.com/t6n4pBxMJn

Shared many moments with the legend…some very personal, some on stage. Yet, nothing really prepared me for his passing away. An institution, a timeless actor. Heartbroken.
