They say that if you can drive in India, you can drive anywhere in the world. While it may seem like a compliment, it actually indicates how dangerous driving in our country can be. People’s complete disregard for traffic rules has made it difficult to ensure safety on roads and the number of road accidents recorded every year is alarming.
Having said that, a video from Chennai has gone viral on the internet which highlights how the youth has completely taken road safety for granted. A large group of students are seen sitting on the bus roof and hanging from the window bars, allegedly celebrating “Bus Day”. The video shows how once the bus driver hit the brakes, nearly 30 boys tumbled down from the roof on to the road and nearly got smashed under the tyres.
According to sources, it was the first day of college after summer vacations at Pachayappa’a College and Ambedkar Arts and Science College in Chennai. The students were celebrating the day despite repeated warnings from Chennai Police. Nearly 20 students have now been arrested for creating a public nuisance.

In the previous years, Madras Court had severely condemned the dangerous celebrations surrounding “Bus Day”. But the students seem to ignore the warnings they have been getting, putting theirs and the life of others at risk.
The video has attracted a lot of heat from netizens who took on Twitter to severely condemn the act.
It is banned . I remember reading a news last year that some students are arrested in chennai for celebrating the bus day which is against the courts verdict.

These are students from Pachaiyappas College Chennai celebrating 'Bus Day'. Nothing changes. Same rowdy behaviour from this college for 4 decades. Why are such colleges still functioning ? Do such students deserve degrees ? pic.twitter.com/xqzzTrJ0ln

Strict punishment should be given to those displaying such behavior and stricter rules should be imposed to ensure road safety. Risky acts like this shouldn’t be tolerated. Do you agree?
