‘Bank Mein Sirf ₹75,000 The’: Billionaire Anil Agarwal On Buying His 1st Flat In Mumbai

Buying a home in Mumbai? Most people today can only dream of it. The real estate prices in India’s financial capital are sky-high, making it one of the most expensive cities to live in. Even a tiny apartment in a decent area can cost a fortune. However, decades ago, billionaire Anil Agarwal, the founder and chairman of Vedanta Group, changed this narrative.

Recently, Anil Agarwal took to X to share a heartfelt memory of how he bought his first home in Mumbai. Long before he became a billionaire, he was just a young man trying to make a name for himself.

“When I first came to Bombay, I was living near Cotton Exchange near Kalbadevi. My first business partner had a small office there, and that’s where it all began. Life was simple, but my dreams were not,” he wrote.

After years of hard work and ‘jugaad’, he finally dared to dream of owning a home. But there was one small problem – his bank account had only Rs 75,000. Most people advised him to look for a place in the suburbs, which was more affordable and practical. But he had his eyes set on something grander.

“I wanted to live where the top people lived. Malabar Hill, near Peddar Road, that’s where I saw myself, because I believed that one day, I would also make it big,” he shared.

Against all odds, he bought his first flat in Navranga Apartment. It was just 330 sq ft, tiny by today’s standards, but to him, it was his biggest achievement. That little apartment wasn’t just four walls – it was a symbol of his belief in himself and his dreams.

“Life is all about dreaming big and believing in yourself. Start small, work hard, and never let anyone tell you what you can or cannot achieve. Dream it. Believe it. And one day, you will live it,” he added.
