Should Domestic Workers Be Trained In High-Protein Cooking? Bengaluru Woman’s Idea Divides X

High-protein diets have become the go-to choice for fitness enthusiasts and health-conscious people, especially in metro cities. From gym-goers to busy working professionals, everyone wants meals that are not only tasty but also packed with nutrients. However, preparing such meals daily can be time-consuming, leading many to rely on domestic help.

Recently, a Bengaluru-based woman, Amirtha, sparked a conversation on this very idea. Taking to X, she proposed a startup that trains maids and cooks to prepare “high-quality, high-protein meals or meal prepping”. Calling it an untapped market, she suggested it could bridge the gap between health-conscious employers and domestic workers.

Her tweet quickly went viral, but the reactions were far from unanimous. Some applauded her idea, calling it a win-win solution that could upskill domestic workers while catering to a growing demand. They saw it as a chance for cooks to earn more by specializing in healthy meal preparation.

However, others criticized the idea for its potential classist undertones. They argued that domestic workers are already overburdened and underpaid, and expecting them to learn niche skills without addressing existing inequalities might exploit them further.
