High-protein diets have become the go-to choice for fitness enthusiasts and health-conscious people, especially in metro cities. From gym-goers to busy working professionals, everyone wants meals that are not only tasty but also packed with nutrients. However, preparing such meals daily can be time-consuming, leading many to rely on domestic help.
But can the rising demand for high-protein meals create a new business opportunity?
Recently, a Bengaluru-based woman, Amirtha, sparked a conversation on this very idea. Taking to X, she proposed a startup that trains maids and cooks to prepare “high-quality, high-protein meals or meal prepping”. Calling it an untapped market, she suggested it could bridge the gap between health-conscious employers and domestic workers.

Her tweet quickly went viral, but the reactions were far from unanimous. Some applauded her idea, calling it a win-win solution that could upskill domestic workers while catering to a growing demand. They saw it as a chance for cooks to earn more by specializing in healthy meal preparation.
Brilliant idea! ? Teaching maids/cooks high-protein meal prep could revolutionize daily diets. Think online courses, certification, or even an app with step-by-step guides. Big demand, especially in health-conscious households!

govt should capture this market via a scheme to bring people out of poverty by providing training for low paying jobs, a win-win for all

However, others criticized the idea for its potential classist undertones. They argued that domestic workers are already overburdened and underpaid, and expecting them to learn niche skills without addressing existing inequalities might exploit them further.
