Doctors are some of the most overworked people in our country. Day in and day out, they’re on their feet, saving lives, managing emergencies, and providing care to countless patients. While doing all this, they often forget to look after themselves. Their sleep takes a hit, meals are rushed, and fitness usually takes a backseat.
Speaking of which, Dr. Deepak Krishnamurthy, a name well-known and respected in the field of cardiology, recently announced that he is taking a sabbatical as he turns 50. His reason? To focus on his personal health and start a long-overdue fitness journey.

Calling it a “partial sabbatical”, Dr. Krishnamurthy clarified that he’s stepping back from some of his professional duties but will still be available for consultations at RxDx Clinic in Whitefield, Bengaluru.
He shared that this break is about “resetting a few things” in life and taking the time to care for his own body and mind. He has teamed up with his long-time friend and wellness expert Dr. Nandita Iyer. She’s a well-known advocate for plant-based eating and holistic living.

I’m on a partial sabbatical before I announce my next assignment. I’m available for consultations at RxDx clinic, Whitefield, Bengaluru (check my profile). Since I’m turning 50 soon and have some time on hand, I thought it’s time to reset few things.

That’s excellent news. I took early retirement from corporate life at 50. It helps mind, body and soul to slow down and change gears!@HappyRetiremnt

Congratulations—also for doing something uncommon among Indian doctors. For a long time, we have romanticized the idea of overworking without taking care of ourselves, sometimes forgetting the very reason we work.

Life is much more exciting when you do what you enjoy . I got that calling exactly at 50 and enjoying every moment of it now – not a single moment regret especially when you crave for making some impact . All the best best Dr Deepak and blessings and wishes

People who take a short break from regular work feels like a fresh breath for me while I am happy for them!!
This is much indeed needed for every individual. To rejuvenate, to clear our mind, to focus on only what is important that lets us live more peaceful..
Good luck doctor!— Srujan Kadamba (@suryasrujan) April 13, 2025
Dr. Krishnamurthy’s story is a strong reminder that taking a break isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a step towards long-term wellness.
