Almost every household in India has a kaam-wali bai who helps out with the domestic work everyday. She washes the dishes, cleans and mops the floor, and also washes clothes in some households. Yes, sometimes she can be unreasonsable- but she is human, after all. But the way she works everyday to keep our houses clean truly makes her suerhuman. And hence, we need to start appreciating this woman, without whom everyday life truly would be a chore.
Here are a list of reasons why you should start appreciating the work she does everyday:
1. She comes and cleans your house EVERY day

If it weren’t for her, between our laziness and hectic work schedule, we would probably clean the house just once a week.

2. Once in a few months, we get bored with our jobs. Imagine how she must feel

The.same.thing.every.day.
#AppreciateHer
3. She has to clean all the dirty vessels every day, and sometimes dirty clothes too

Would you like to wash others’ dirty underwear or clean plates that still has food stuck to it?
#AppreciateHer
4. We can take a holiday from our work place pretty easily; but if she does not come for a few days, everybody gets mad at her

#AppreciateHer
5. Even in the cold, she washes the dishes and mops the floor with the cold water

… while we try every trick in the book not to use the ice-cold water.
#AppreciateHer
6. We might get promoted, but she works for others until she gets old enough to stop working- and that too without complaining

Yes, sometimes she switches off the fan when you are sleeping and that will irritate you…but how else is she supposed to clean all the dust with the fan on?
#AppreciateHer
7. She has no pension or job security. Still, she works hard every day to make ends meet

We realize her importance on the day she cannot come- when all the dirty dishes pile up and the floor needs to be mopped.
#AppreciateHer
8. Every time we have a lot of guests over for dinner, our first thought is: Is the kaam-wali bai coming tomorrow?

And suddenly, you cannot find even a single clean spoon in the kitchen.
#AppreciateHer
9. It takes a lot of physical effort and labour to wash and clean at so many houses every day

Summer. Rain. Cold. No matter what, she is there.
#AppreciateHer
10. She works without complaining even on Sundays

We call it “working overtime” if we have to work on a Sunday. If we had to work on Sundays, we would immediately have asked for a raise or extra pay.
#AppreciateHer
11. She balances her family AND helps you have a easier life… and yet you will never know even if she is having a tough day

#AppreciateHer
We never ask her how she works so much every day. Nor does she get a holiday until she asks for it. She truly does make our everyday life easier. Thank you, didi.
