If you’re a fan of cricket (wait, who isn’t?), I can bet my life, you know the phenomenon that is, Virat Kohli! If you do, and you have been even a little observant, you’d know that the Australian media is kinda-sorta obsessed with him right now. Calling names, you ask? They have left that bridge behind!
Let me give you a timeline to understand better.
Earlier, FOX Sports Australia, a sports network, conducted a Facebook live poll that contested for the title, ‘Vettel (villain) of the week’. That’s right! It listed Virat Kohli among animals like a panda, a puppy and a kitten!
Skip to another Oz publication, The Daily Telegraph that not only branded the skipper of the Indian cricket team as ‘dictatorial’ but compared him to the (in)famous POTUS, Donald Trump.
The article was headlined,
“Virat Kohli’s Donald Trump-like contempt for the truth making mockery of the game.”
Yes, the brickbats are the result of Kohli trying to call out Steve Smith for the whole DRS controversy in the second Test where the Australian skipper was caught looking towards the dressing room after being dismissed LBW.
Now, that Indian-Australian rivalry has skipped the boundaries, fans have thronged to support Virat. In fact, the Shahenshah of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan, has come out in defense too. He tweeted,
T 2471 – Aussi media calls Virat, Donald Trump of sports !! … thank you Aussi media for accepting that he is a winner and the PRESIDENT !! pic.twitter.com/ZOoNtuhtC2

Really, could there be any comment better than that? Here’s hoping that the Kangaroos will come around!
