Imagine trying to explain to your parents that “work from home” doesn’t mean you have the day off. For them, the concept of work involves dressing up in formal attire, enduring rush hour traffic, and spending the day in an office cubicle. So when they see you in your pyjamas, typing away on your laptop from the comfort of your couch, it’s no wonder they think you’re free to chat, run errands, or help with household chores.
“Beta dhaniya la de,” they say, completely unaware that you’re in the middle of an important Zoom meeting with your boss.
Numerous people online have been sharing how unserious their parents are when they work from home. While some are interrupted during their online meetings, others are expected to respond to their parents’ call of duty throughout work hours. Have a look:
i had to quit my remote job because my mom didn’t take it seriously enough she would call me to wash dishes or make lunch for the family while in a meeting 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

That’s so annoying man. What ever day I had online classes my dad would say, “You’re free that day, right?”, making me do errands on busy days. 😭

In hindsight, our parents come from a world where work means clocking in at an office and wearing suits, not pyjama pants. Maybe one day, they’ll understand that our home office is just as legitimate as their traditional one!
