5 Times Joey Tribbiani Was More Thoughtful Than The Other F.R.I.E.N.D.S

After hogging the epic sitcom on reruns after reruns on televisions, downloaded and files and the internet, you tend to get past the layers of every character that you have already fallen in love with. One of the most adorable of the six friends, Joey Tribbiani posed as a teenager trapped inside a grown man’s body.

He was often patronized by the rest of the group, hardly ever considered an adult and that seemed to have worked just fine for him because he had all the love he needed. However, as you look deeper, it becomes amazingly evident that Joey was actually one of the most matured and sorted out of all. Here’s why.

1. The time when Joey sounded more matured than Chandler

Chandler Bing wasn’t happy when his on and off girlfriend Janice got involved with her ex. It seemed that he would have resorted to a harsher approach of addressing the issue had Joey not put some perspective in his head.

It was amazing to see Joey Tribbiani with such insight as he explained how Janice had a history with her ex-husband, that she had mothered a child with him and it was only natural for the flames of passions to still burn.

 

2. When Joey talked sense into his sister

We saw a whole new Joey Tribbiani when Tina, one of Joey’s seven sisters got pregnant out of wedlock with a guy whose career plan was pretty much hoping for his band to kick off – the name of the band being Numbnuts. Joey tried his best to be all tough in his sister and her boyfriend Bobby but melted down eventually.

His Italian upbringing contradicted with the New York culture he has imbibed and ultimately, his open-mindedness made him stand as the ideal brother he is – something the honor killers of our country should learn from.

 

3. When Rachel confessed of her cravings to Joey

She was sharing an apartment with Joey and in the first trimester of her pregnancy when the highs and lows of the pregnancy hormones made her sexually stimulated. Her cravings seemed indomitable as she seduces Joey in her own oddball, kinky way and Joey, almost at the brink of succumbing to temptations snaps back at the last moment and refrains.

Not that it would have been wrong if they slept together that night but it was good to see Joey Tribbiani, not going “how you doin?” on a woman for once and considering his friendship with Rachel first.

 

4. When Joey just wouldn’t let Ross live with a grudge

When Ross walked into Joey and Rachel kissing, his reaction was hard to watch. Ross chose to be passive aggressive without considering the matter like an adult – something Joey could have easily used to his favor to continue his fling with Rachel but he didn’t. Also, it was just a situation error when Joey found the ring in Ross’ coat pocket and showed it to Rachel who thought Joey was proposing to her and ended up saying yes with Ross walking in right at that moment. Joey, valued his friendship with Ross and tried every thing in his capabilities to make sure that Ross communicates with him, even if it means urging him to hit him in the face.

Now, it’s a different thing that Ross actually goes to hit him and ends hitting the post as Joey ducks in the last moment which leads Ross to the emergency.

 

5. When Joey’s father started cheating on his mother

No matter how old you are, it is never easy to discover, process and accept that one of your parents is cheating on the other. Joey, like any other son found it unacceptable but instead of shaming his father for his actions he actually stepped into the shoes of a protective guardian an tried to keep his father away from his new girlfriend. Eventually, he came to know that his mother had already known about the affair and she preferred life that way it has turned out to be.

The situation was not something easy to comprehend, let alone accept but Joey Tribbiani actually confronted and addressed the issue with his parents which made everything a little easier for the family.

Joey was, what they call, a complete man who knew what mattered most in life.
