In today’s dating scene, AI tools are like helpful friends who can write smooth messages for you on dating apps. They help you sound witty and appealing, so you catch the eye of someone you like. With their help, you can send messages that are fun and sweet, making your online chats feel as exciting as a romantic story.
However, it is not very fun for the person sitting on the other end of the screen, for they do not know that they are being AI’d. They think what the other person is writing is genuine. In simple terms, they are being conned!
For example, a woman from Bengaluru took to Reddit’s r/india to share how she went on a date with a guy with whom she really hit it off during their conversation online. The guy was apparently very witty and charming on text but in person, he was incredibly dull and couldn’t hold a conversation. Even though he was confident and extroverted, he sounded very different from his texts.
“Went on a date last night with someone I thought I hit it off with. The conversations were really good, and finally found someone really funny and was super entertaining. Was really looking forward to the date and after I met him, things were so different. He could barely speak a proper sentence. Not that he was shy or awkward. It was the opposite. He was extremely confident and extroverted. But all that language and wit disappeared. It was so weird I was a bit taken back,” she wrote.
However, in the middle of a conversation about AI, he mistakenly blurted out how he used AI while chatting with her and quickly changed the subject once he realised. And now the woman feels as though she wasted her time with him.
“We drank a bit and started generally talking about startups in Bangalore and AI. And he spoke in length about things in AI and some tools he’s using. Then he let it slip how he used AI even in his chats. And he quickly changed the subject. That’s when I realised what had happened. The dude has been using AI in all his chats with me!! And in person he was dull and uninteresting. I’m so annoyed with all that time invested it’s so frustrating,” she added.
